KATHMANDU — Nepal has formally declined international search-and-rescue assistance as the nation grapples with catastrophic monsoon floods that have pushed the death toll toward 500.

Government authorities stated that domestic military personnel and emergency rescue forces possess sufficient operational capacity to manage relief operations across submerged provinces.

However, relief agencies warn that severe shortages of clean drinking water, emergency shelter, and medical supplies may quickly overwhelm local infrastructure in the worst-hit districts.
