Tropical Storm Saudel moved across the northeastern part of the South China Sea yesterday. Its outer rainbands affected the coast of eastern Guangdong. Locally, it was mainly cloudy. There were one or two showers at first and sunny intervals during the day. Saudel is expected to linger over the northeastern part of the South China Sea this morning, gradually turning westwards. It will then skirt the coast of eastern Guangdong. Under the combined effect of Saudel and the northeast monsoon, the weather will be windier with swells over the coast of southern China. Saudel is expected to edge closer to the vicinity of the Pearl River Estuary again on Friday, but there are rather large uncertainties in its intensity by then. Besides, Tropical Depression Krovanh intensified into a tropical storm yesterday morning. At 11 p.m. last night, Krovanh was centred about 420 kilometres east-southeast of Okinawa. It is forecast to move northwest at about 22 kilometres per hour towards the vicinity of the Ryukyu Islands. Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Thursday, 3 Sep 2026): Mainly cloudy with one or two showers. Sunny intervals during the day. Temperatures will range between 26 and 31 degrees. Moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, occasionally strong offshore and on high ground. There will be swells. Outlook: It will still be windier with swells on Friday. Sunny intervals with one or two showers during the weekend to early next week.
