Meta Platforms has introduced new Instagram safety alerts in Hong Kong designed to immediately notify parents when teenagers repeatedly search for suicide or self-harm keywords within a short window.

The system automatically flags high-risk terms, sending alerts to linked parental supervision accounts when repeated searches occur.

This initiative forms part of Meta’s broader push to enhance digital safeguards for minors amid growing global scrutiny over youth mental well-being on social media.
