Tear-Free Kitchens: Centre Rolls Out Subsidised Onions at ₹35 Per Kilo

Tear-Free Kitchens: Centre Rolls Out Subsidised Onions at ₹35 Per Kilo
Source: Business Line

In a decisive move to curb rising food inflation, the central government on Friday launched retail sales of onions at a subsidised rate of ₹35 per kilogram across the Delhi-NCR region.

The fresh market intervention draws directly from the Centre's strategic buffer reserves, bolstered by the direct procurement of 1.21 lakh tonnes of onions from local farmers earlier this season.

Officials confirmed that subsidised distribution via mobile vans and retail outlets will soon expand to other major urban centres, aiming to stabilize supplies and protect consumers from sudden market spikes.
