In a blistering Thursday night ruling, a federal judge declared that the Pentagon acted unlawfully when it levied punitive measures against artificial intelligence developer Anthropic.

The court determined the Department of Defense's actions were baseless retaliation sparked by the company’s public critique of military AI deployment standards.

While Anthropic hailed the decision as a critical defense of free speech and regulatory oversight, federal officials are expected to mount a swift appeal.
