Odisha is bracing for extremely heavy rainfall as the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal continues to influence the state’s weather. The IMD has issued a Red Warning for three districts Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Balasore for Sunday, forecasting rainfall exceeding 20 cm at isolated places. The alert comes at a time when several parts of Odisha are still recovering from recent flood-related damage. Similarly, an Orange Warning has been issued for eight districts Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur and Jharsuguda for very heavy rainfall. Another 19 districts are under a Yellow Warning for heavy rain. Heavy showers have already lashed several parts of the state, with Bhubaneswar receiving persistent rain since Saturday night. The weather system is likely to keep Odisha under a wet spell until September 3. The renewed rainfall has raised concerns over a possible deterioration of the situation in flood-affected areas, particularly in northern Odisha. Authorities and residents in the Red Warning districts have been advised to remain alert as extremely heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding, waterlogging, disruption of road connectivity and rising water levels in rivers and other water bodies.
