Heavy rainfall continued to lash several parts of Odisha under the influence of a low-pressure system, leaving normal life affected across northern and western districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts until 8:30 am today. The warning comes amid the possibility of intense rainfall that could trigger waterlogging, flash floods and disruption to road communication in vulnerable areas. An orange alert for very heavy rainfall has been issued for six districts, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul and Mayurbhanj. The remaining 22 districts have been placed under yellow warning, with chances of heavy rainfall at several places. Coastal Odisha is also expected to experience heavy rain, although weather conditions may witness a slight improvement in some areas on Tuesday. As many as 17 districts have also been placed under yellow warning. The continuing downpour has raised concerns over waterlogging, flooding in low-lying areas and rising water levels in rivers and streams. Meanwhile, the concerned authorities are closely monitoring the situation, particularly in vulnerable districts, as more rain is expected.
