Odisha is set to witness another spell of intense weather, with IMD on Monday issuing warnings for extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over the next three days from September 1. According to the warning issued by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, on August 31, isolated extremely heavy rainfall is likely during Day 1, valid up to 8.30 am on September 1. Red Warning For Northern Odisha A red warning has been issued for parts of northern Odisha, including Sundargarh and Keonjhar, where scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall is expected. Several other districts, including Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Angul and Mayurbhanj, are under an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall. Many remaining districts have been placed under a yellow warning for isolated heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning. The weather activity is expected to continue on Day 2, from 8.30 am on September 1 to 8.30 am on September 2. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places, particularly over parts of western Odisha, while several northern, central and coastal districts may experience heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds are also likely. Dry Spell Only After Sept 4 On Day 3, from September 2 to September 3, the intensity is expected to reduce, though isolated heavy rainfall may continue across several districts. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds will remain a concern. Wind speeds may reach around 30-40kmph and, at isolated places, 40-50kmph. Conditions are expected to improve significantly thereafter. The IMD has issued no weather warning for Odisha from Day 4 to Day 7, covering the period from September 3 to September 7. Residents, particularly in districts under red, orange, and yellow warnings, have been advised to remain alert and avoid unnecessary exposure during thunderstorms and lightning.
