Heavy rain to continue across Odisha for three more days; red alert in 3 districts: IMD

Odisha is likely to witness another three days of heavy rainfall as a low-pressure area continues to influence the weather over the state, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.  Several districts have been facing heavy rain across the state for the past two days. The intensity of rainfall is expected to remain high, particularly in northern Odisha. According to reports, a red warning has been issued for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore, forecasting very heavy rainfall in these districts. An orange alert has also been issued for eight districts. Meanwhile, the remaining districts have been placed under a yellow alert. Heavy Rain Forecast In Northern Odisha Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur and Sundargarh are under the orange alert. These districts could receive more than 20 centimetres of rainfall. Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Bhubaneswar, said, “The state is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall over the next 24 hours. Districts such as Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore are likely to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. A red alert has also been issued for these districts.” Rain Raises Fresh Flood Concerns The renewed spell of rainfall raised concerns in several districts where floodwaters recently receded. The possibility of further heavy showers could add to the difficulties of people in these areas. Officials advised residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions in view of the forecast.
