Tropical Depression Saudel moved across the northern part of the South China Sea today, its outer rainbands affected the coast of Guangdong. Locally, the weather was mainly cloudy with occasional squally showers, showers were heavier in some areas with thunderstorms. Around 20 millimetres of rainfall were generally recorded over the territory, and rainfall even exceeded 40 millimetres over the eastern part of the New Territories. Saudel is expected to gradually edge closer to the coast of eastern Guangdong tomorrow. Under the combined effect of Saudel and the northeast monsoon, the weather will be windier with squally showers and swells over the coast of southern China. Saudel will linger over the vicinity of the northeastern part of the South China Sea and the coast of eastern Guangdong on Thursday. There are uncertainties in its subsequent movement and intensity. Besides, the area of low pressure over the western North Pacific to the east of the Philippines intensified into a tropical depression today, and was named Krovanh. At 11 p.m., Krovanh was centred about 680 kilometres southeast of Okinawa. It is forecast to move northeast slowly towards the vicinity of the Ryukyu Islands. Weather forecast for Hong Kong (Wednesday, 2 Sep 2026): Mainly cloudy with occasional squally showers and isolated thunderstorms. Temperatures will range between 26 and 30 degrees. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds, occasionally strong offshore and on high ground. There will be swells. Outlook: Still a few showers in the following couple of days.
