Rep. Casar: US Needs to Put the Brakes on Advanced AI

Rep. Greg Casar, chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, discusses legislation he is proposing with Sen. Bernie Sanders that would permanently ban artificial superintelligence, temporarily pause advanced AI development, and establish a new federal AI regulator. Casar says companies should be barred from pursuing artificial superintelligence, while research on AI that is safe and beneficial could continue. He also discusses divisions among House Democrats and the role of the Progressive Caucus if Democrats win control of the chamber.
