France's politicians look to close gap with far right ahead of key election

With eight months until the next french Presidential election, politicians are ramping up their campaigning, with interviews, meetings and public statements. But who exactly will run has yet to be decided. The centre-left socialists and Place Publique parties will hold a primary in October to elect one candidate, as to not dilute the vote. While centrist and centre-right candidates are also having to decide between rivalry and unity. The dilemma? How to best stave off the rise of the far right and left.
