Mathura News: Yogi Adityanath To Visit Krishna Janmabhoomi On Janmashtami 2026

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is on the second day of his Mathura visit as the city prepares to celebrate Krishna Janmashtami 2026. On the festival day, Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to perform darshan and puja at Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi and will also participate in Gau Puja. During his first day in Mathura, the Chief Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth around ₹1,051 crore, honoured saints and attended cultural programmes. He was also seen affectionately interacting with a child dressed as Bal Krishna. Yogi used his Mathura visit to highlight the government’s focus on preserving the region’s religious and cultural heritage and questioned whether such large-scale celebrations were possible before 2017. His remarks also triggered a political exchange with the Samajwadi Party ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The political significance of the visit is being closely watched as the BJP seeks to highlight development and its cultural agenda in the Braj region, while the opposition has accused the government of using religious symbols for political purposes. The Braj region comprises eight districts and 40 Assembly constituencies, where the BJP has maintained a strong electoral presence in recent elections. The Chief Minister’s visit, therefore, combines Janmashtami celebrations, religious observances, development announcements and an increasingly heated political narrative in Uttar Pradesh.
