A major safety scare has emerged in Delhi’s Satya Niketan following a building collapse, with authorities now turning their attention to nearby structures that may also be at risk. A five-storey building located immediately next to the collapsed structure has been evacuated as a precaution after concerns were raised about its structural stability. The owner has reportedly been served a three-day notice to demolish the building. Notices have also been pasted on other reportedly dilapidated buildings in the area, asking occupants to vacate them. According to the report, the collapsed property was originally allotted as Shop No. 14 on a 60-square-yard plot. It is alleged that illegal construction was later carried out above the shop and PG accommodation was created. The neighbouring Shop No. 13 is also reportedly in poor condition, with visible structural damage following the collapse. Temporary support using iron jacks has been installed, and the building has been completely evacuated. Meanwhile, rescue operations are continuing at the collapse site. Local residents and RWA representatives have suggested that around 30–40 people may have been inside the building, although the exact number has not been officially confirmed. According to information cited in the report, around 12 people have been rescued, while six people have reportedly died and others are undergoing treatment at a nearby government hospital. NDRF teams, JCBs and heavy machinery are being used to remove debris and search the basement area. Narrow lanes and difficult access have made the rescue operation challenging, but teams continue their efforts to locate anyone who may still be trapped.
