More than 18 hours after the devastating building collapse in Delhi’s Satya Niketan, the massive rescue operation continues at the site. Since around 1:30 PM on Sunday, teams from the NDRF, Delhi Police and Delhi Fire Service have been working continuously to remove heavy concrete slabs and debris and search for people who may still be trapped underneath. Six deaths have so far been confirmed, while around five to six injured people are reportedly receiving treatment in hospitals. Rescue teams are using JCB machines, trucks and other heavy equipment to clear the debris, but the operation is progressing slowly because of the narrow lanes in the area. The debris still contains thick iron rods, furniture, clothes and personal belongings of students who were staying in the five-storey PG building. These belongings have added to the emotional impact of the tragedy, as many students had reportedly come to Delhi to study and build their futures. Despite more than 18 hours passing since the collapse, authorities have not been able to establish the exact number of people who were inside the building when it collapsed or how many may still be trapped. Rescue personnel continue searching through the rubble despite the growing concerns over the chances of finding survivors after such a long period. The focus remains on removing the remaining debris and locating anyone who could still be alive. Authorities are continuing the operation with the hope of finding survivors while investigations into the cause of the collapse are also underway.
