BIHAR FLOOD CRISIS: Rising Rivers Disrupt Life Across Patna, Vaishali, Munger and Saran

Bihar is facing a worsening flood situation as rising river levels disrupt life across several districts. In Paliganj, Patna, the swelling Punpun River caused the Rupapur-Bala Bigha main road to collapse, cutting off Rupapur village and submerging hundreds of acres of paddy and other crops. The Ganga has also crossed the danger mark in Patna, increasing the threat to low-lying areas. In Raghopur, Vaishali, the Ganga was recorded at 50.36 metres, significantly above the danger mark of 48.60 metres, with floodwater rapidly spreading through low-lying and diara areas. Union Minister Chirag Paswan visited affected families and heard their concerns. In Munger, rising Ganga waters have entered homes in several wards, forcing families to move to roadsides with children and livestock. Residents are seeking boats, drinking water, and essential relief supplies. Saran has also reported flooding across five blocks, affecting areas including Sonpur, Dighwara, and Sabalpur. Meanwhile, Ganga levels remain above the danger mark in Bhagalpur, with further rises expected until September 8. Nalanda faces embankment erosion risks, while the Durgavati River in Kaimur is also flowing dangerously high. Despite the risk, a youth was seen jumping into the swollen river, highlighting serious safety concerns.
