Domestic Price Slump Derails Sugar Import Plans

A sharp drop in domestic sugar prices has made foreign supplies costlier than local stocks, stalling the Centre's plan to import one million tonnes of raw sugar to cool the market. Although port-based refineries have committed roughly 260,000 tonnes, only a few thousand tonnes have actually entered the domestic market so far, completely diminishing the commercial appeal of these ongoing imports.
