Bessent Faces G20 Credibility Test Amid Interventions

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s interventionist summer has already led to pushback and questions about his credibility in financial markets. Now he faces a test with global peers.  Ahead of the meeting of Group of 20 finance ministers in Asheville, North Carolina, on Monday, Bessent has vowed to return the conversation among the world’s top economic policymakers to the core subject of boosting growth. The challenge for Bessent in selling this message is that the biggest threats to global growth this year have come from the high energy prices and other consequences of President Donald Trump’s war on Iran, as well as the impact of US tariffs that are again in focus with the launch of a new trade war against fellow G20 member Canada. Bloomberg Senior Economics Writer Shawn Donnan joins Bloomberg Businessweek Daily to discuss. He speaks with Tim Stenovec and Kristine Aquino. (Source: Bloomberg)
