The rapid depletion of the Srisailam reservoir has raised severe alarms regarding the water security of Andhra Pradesh's Rayalaseema region, water rights advocates warned this week.

Saguneeti Samithi president Dasaratharami Reddy stated that uncalculated water drawdowns directly jeopardise both immediate drinking needs and long-term agricultural survival across the parched belt.

Reddy highlighted that Telangana's persistent hydel power generation at the Left Bank Power House has triggered heavy, unnecessary downstream discharges over the past decade, demanding urgent inter-state regulatory intervention.
