KATHMANDU — Devastating flash floods and catastrophic landslides have battered Nepal, claiming at least 392 lives and leaving roughly 1,500 people unaccounted for as rescue teams navigate treacherous terrain.

The disaster has overwhelmed local infrastructure, displacing thousands of families and triggering fears of an impending second wave of deluge as torrential rains persist across the region.

In response to the escalating crisis, the Red Cross launched an emergency appeal for $31 million to deliver critical shelter, medical aid, and clean drinking water.
